About our Apps

Mahalo for visiting a Site owned and operated by ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc. or an App published by ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc. “Sites” refers to Internet web sites and “Apps” refers to apps for use on mobile communication devices such as smartphones and tablets. “Platforms” refers to Sites and Apps collectively. Through the Platforms, ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc. aims to extend our mission to use educational media to help children reach their highest potential in acquiring literacy skills in the Hawaiian language.

Kīpaepae App (MEA HOU! / NEW!)

With over 400 vocabulary words and illustrations, 700 practice sentences, 100 everyday phrases, multiple reading and listening comprehension exercises and over 20 read along books, ʻAha Pūnana Leo’s robust Kīpaepae app was designed to be used as a supplement to our in-person Hui Kīpaepae ʻohana classes or as a standalone practice tool for any learner of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi.

The app features mini-lessons, practice exercises and quizzes with personal stats tracking streaks and points earned along with a leaderboard for our Pūnana Leo and community members. Choose a male or female voice to help you work through the practice exercises.

This app was created to provide our Pūnana Leo parents with a strong foundation from which they can build upon to increase the possibility that ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi will become the primary language of communication within the ʻohana over the course of their child’s K-12 Hawaiian Medium Education (HME) school career.

E ola ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi!

Ka Hakalama App

Released in December of 2023, our Hakalama app for keiki consists of a series of 42 interactive games to assist in memorizing the hakalama syllabary by strengthening the various skills needed to both visually and auditorily distinguish between the 90 hakalama syllables to help support early literacy for our keiki Pūnana Leo. Help Pākaʻa build his canoe so that he can catch mālolo for his family!
